other than thrash

Here is a list of other non-thrash rock and metal bands I enjoy. If you are a fan of heavy music (and not just TROOO THRAAAAASH), check out some the the links. You might find something new.

AGENTS OF OBLIVION
This band was the ultimate in haunting and beautiful music. Real music. Featuring former members of Acid Bath, they recorded only one record which is a cherished classic to yours truly. How AoB could write music that was so dark and sad, and yet be beautiful and uplifting at the same time was close to miraculous.

JUNGLE ROT
The absolute kings of catchy, groove-based death metal. To listen and not move to the music is impossible, whether it be jumping, headbanging, fist-pumping, foot-stomping, or moshing. Jungle Rot produce a simple and straight forward kick to the ass.
Info here and here.

KILGORE
Kilgore (formerly Kilgore Smudge) drew from many sources of modern rock and metal of the 90s. Everything from Pantera, Life of Agony, Danzig, and STP can be heard on their two releases, titled Blue Collar Solitude and A Search for Reason, respectively. Unbelievably catchy and heavy with one hell of a vocalist.

KINGSHIFTER
A full-on rock band. If Down, Clutch and Black Label Society had a three-way baby, you would get the awesome power of KingShifter. Riffs, riffs, riffs, and more riffs!
Info here and here.

SCISSORFIGHT
This Portsmouth, NH band churned out some thick and heavy Mountain Man Rock. Each Scissorfight record is a strong mixture of riff rock, punk, and metal - written to make you drink and/or fight.
