The new Lich King song: Combat Mosh!

Here we go! A sliver of what is to become the 4th album by the mighty Lich King: a new song titled Combat Mosh!

What a perfect song to release as a promise of what is to come. Combat Mosh runs us down with a neck-snapping main riff, and backs over us with a combination of equally crushing chorus riffs and solos.

It also must be noted that the Lichmaster's vocals have never sounded better. I can't wait until album #4!

Now, before I actually put on a Lich King cheerleader uniform and do a little dance as the world's biggest fanboy, please listen to the song yourself. All kidding aside, this is a cut of killer metal.

I guarantee that Combat Mosh is going to become a circle-pit classic.

In Malice's Wake ROCKS!

You gotta hand it to Australia's metal titans IN MALICE'S WAKE because they offer a wall-of-sound assault to kick the ass of any appreciative thrash fan.

I love this stuff! Relentlessly driving riffs move along the song structures to provide a catchy and brutal landscape for the pounding drum rolls and forceful vocals.

If that's not poetic enough to describe the intensity of IMW's music, then I will add that they will kick in your freakin' FACE.

Shaun Farrugia's crushing vocal delivery is a high point for me, reminding me of a cross between Entombed's Petrov and the deathrash version of Chuck Billy.

In Malice's Wake have two releases under their belts (Eternal Nightfall and The Thrashening) and have recently secured worldwide distribution through EMB Records, so be on the lookout.

Or just look below for a couple of my favorite IMW tunes and then check out their Facebook page here.

New track from Mentally Defiled!

Here is a new track from Greek thrashers Mentally Defiled titled Retro Nerd.

The theme of the lyrics remind me of Sabbath's Iron Man, except it's geared toward comic book/D&D geeks.

As a comic/old-school rpg geek, I knew lots of dudes as described in this song and it makes me glad that I was never the type to bully.

The music is pure old-school thrash, as killer as anything Mentally Defiled has put out. I love these guys!

Check it out below, and you don't know about Mentally Defiled yet, go to their Reverbnation page here and get...more...METAL!

Review: Diamond Plate - Generation Why?

Diamond Plate
Generation Why?
Earache

A few Diamond Plate fans are up in arms about what they heard on a couple sneak peeks tracks of the bands upcoming album Generation Why?. Complaints lit up the forums about the vocals sounding too metalcore (?) as well as the sound of the music taking a similar direction.

After listening to the new album, I can say that some of the expressed fears of the band's direction are realized as there is a decidedly "core" influence on some of the tracks. Songs such as Tomb with a View seem to have more in common with Earth Crisis than Slayer or Exodus.

However, if you are taking away that this review is a Diamond Plate bash-fest, you are mistaken. Killer bad-ass metal is still killer bad ass metal no matter what bits and pieces are added, and Diamond Plate drives that point home with Generation Why?.

At its heart, Generation Why? is a thrash record. Riff-heavy goliath songs such as Waste of Life and Empire Tomorrow are galloping shreds of savagery. In fact, the latter song alone is worth buying the album, because those looking for thrash metal played with passion and precision, Empire Tomorrow is destined to become a classic.

Generation Why? is a damn good metal album. Those who are into classic, undiluted thrash metal might feel the need to stay away, but I wouldn't recommend doing so. Speaking as a thrash fan, Diamond Plate's musical prowess, killer riffs and success in writing quality metal music should overstep the pride of a thrash purist.

Does that mean that every song on the album has to be your particular cup of tea? No, but the ones that are will kick your ass hard.

Incarnit ROCKS!

Sweden's INCARNIT, a band I posted about a while ago, have a new demo out and the songs keep getting better and better.

Incarnit does not produce "quick-fix" thrash, rather their songs are pieces of art that one must soak in and absorb. Not to say that the tunes do not rock, because although Incarnit don't prescribe to the 2-minute thrash stomp (and I love those kinds of songs, too), these guys know how to write and ride through on a killer riff with the best of 'em.

I still have a couple minor quibbles which mirror my previously made criticisms regarding Incarnit's earlier songs, but given the quality and promise of the new tunes, such faults are easily cast aside.

Songs such as the scorcher titled Fuck'em and the seven minute opus The Bleeding are my new favorites.

In fact, it was the sheer kick-ass nature of The Bleeding that had me sit down and write this post, because all metal fans need to hear this mid-tempo crusher. The intro creeps up like a Beatles-esque horrorshow, leading into a tight galloping riff that would make Mr. Hetfield jealous.

Incarnit plans to have the demo for sale soon. Meanwhile, you can listen to all their songs on their offical YouTube channel.

Check out The Bleeding below and then find Incarnit's Facebook page here.

Weekend Breakdown: Ecopolis, Furia, Scythe, Collapse

ECOPOLIS
Brutal and bad-ass, the San Jose, CA band ECOPOLIS harkens back to speedy bay area thrash mixed with a healthy dose of early 90's Florida death metal. Ecopolis has mastered the circle-pit verse and mid-tempo chorus slam. MAN, I love this stuff. Tight riffs and a brutal vocal bark rhythm that meshes with the music perfectly. Metal fans will not be disappointed!

Listen below and then Facebook Ecopolis here.

FURIA
Ecuador's FURIA cranks out some pissed off deathrash with a touch of non-wankery tech added. As another band reaching into the late 80s/early 90s death and thrash metal inspirational pool, we are treated to haunting intros, neck-snapping tempos and intricate solos. Simply put, Furia plays killer thrash with a lot of atmosphere, giving each song a nice pinch of character.

Listen to their tune and then find out more here.

SCYTHE
LA's thrashers SCYTHE plays undiluted ball-out thrash freaking metal. Solid riffs and the use of dynamics in both the guitar work and tempo changes keep Scythe's music interesting and skull-crushing! If you want a more detailed overview, go check out Lister Fiend's recent review over at the Skull Fracturing Metal Blog.

Then come back here, give a listen, and then Like 'em on Facebook.

COLLAPSE
Italy's COLLAPSE are just freaking killer. Their thrash is a crushing blend of crossover with Kill 'Em All riffage and Motorhead speed. If you're looking for some down and dirty thrash metal, then Collapse is the real deal.

Listen for yourself and then head over to their Bandcamp page where you can download their four song demo for FREE!
